The Native Copper Mining Era of the Keweenaw Copper Country
Size: 12 in. x 14 in. (approx). Laminated. This map shows the locations of copper mines, stamping mills and other mining operations from the days when Copper was King. Includes notes on dates of operation and background of some of the main sites. About the mapmaker: Tauno Kilpela was a Copper Country native, World War II veteran and Michigan Tech graduate. Mr. Kilpela was a long time member of the Copper Range Historical Society and authored several books chronicling the operations of the seven major copper loads of the Keweenaw mining district.
