Fund Raising Capital Campaign
The Houghton County Historical Society Museum
Completion of the Lake Linden & Torch Lake Railroad
New Archive and Curatorial Building
Reaching our goal will result in the construction of a new curatorial and archive center with office space to house Museum management, genealogical services, and an up-to-date archival facility. The structure will house the extensive photographic, document, and artifact holdings of the Historical Society. It will provide an up-to-date curatorial shop for preparing new exhibits and restoration of artifacts.
Our current offices will be moved from the former C&H Mill Site Fire Hall to this new building, allowing for its restoration and use as classroom and additional exhibit space. Architectural drawings of this facility will be in our on-line site and newsletter this spring!
Improved Accessibility
Full accessibility to persons with disabilities to all Museum facilities will be ensured. This will include an elevator for Museum (the former C&H Office Building), a chair lift and handicapped lavatory in the Heritage Center (former First Congregational Church) and all other campus sites and trails.
Copper Industry Memorial Wall
A common thread now draws many to seek their roots in the Copper Country and its copper industry, and those that wish to honor the contributions of family ancestors will be able to do so with the making of a special plaque which will be displayed on a special outdoor "Copper Wall" on the central Museum campus as an important part of the Milltown History Trail. With a minimum donation of $100.00 names and/or names and photographs of miners, mill workers, and other copper workers can be displayed. Copper mined by Keweenaw workers connected the country and the world, now your family heritage can reconnect to this famous place!
Donor Recognition
Naming Opportunities
Those individuals and firms that have their roots in the history of the copper industry have a unique opportunity to name rooms and facilities. A contribution of $100,000.00 or more will allow the naming of rooms or facilities in the archival/curatorial center, new museum exhibit rooms, or other areas. A challenge grant of $600,000 or more will allow the Archival/Curatorial Center facility to be named for the donor. For addition information please contact our offices.
Milltown History Trail
Your family or your firm can contribute to the completion of the Mill Town History Trail and receive the recognition by having your sponsorship of the plaque permanently on display. Your contribution will provide an enduring monument to this program.
WAYS TO GIVE
The way that you can help our cause and give to the HCHS Heritage Campaign will be based on the size of your gift and your financial situation. All gifts to the Houghton County Historical Society are tax deductible and qualify for a Michigan Tax Credit.
Gifts of Cash
Give a one-time cash contribution or make a multi-year pledge with scheduled payments that are in synch with your budget. Checks are to be made payable to the Houghton County Historical Society to qualify for the Michigan Tax Credit.
Appreciated Securities
There are distinct tax advantages for the giving of appreciated securities to our capital campaign. An generous income tax deduction is allowed for the full market value of the securities, and the donor does not pay tax on the appreciation.
